My Baldwin Family Line. Let the blog commence?

HEY, YOU GUYS!

I made a blog.

The purpose of this blog is to post family tree research that I and others have done, and to share it with interested people, most probably within my family. Hi family!

Also strange, random, internet stalkers.

Hi stalkers!

I need to try to figure out the information-privacy balance, so for now I will try to limit information on currently living generations.

I guess a good first post would be to list all of the generations I have on the direct paternal Baldwin line, including all of my g-g-grandmothers. This can form the spine for what I will delve into and talk about later. Consider this the main trunk of the tree. Interesting stories and posts will almost always refer back to this main line.

'Coats of Arms' granted by England don't legally transfer down
through all family members, but I have found this attributed
to one John or Richard Baldwin. Because this is America and
we do what we want, I will post this here and claim some
rights to its use. It's what the founders would have wanted.

"Vim vi repello." "I repel force by force."

I strive for accuracy with my names and dates, and do my best to thoroughly research connections using verifiable Ancestry-dot-com links with public documentation, or visits to cemeteries, whenever possible. However, much of the research I have been finding has already been conducted by other, more capable people. And, by those who have direct access to records overseas, which I would not be able to verify personally.

But the Baldwin Genealogy has been fairly well documented by Charles Candee Baldwin in his famous book, and I've gotten some information from family reunion sources, such as Cousin Mert's old print-outs which I found in some files. And also from my Aunt Roz and cousins Todd and Tracey, whom I have spoken with, and whose research I do not doubt. so thank you Aunt Roz, and Todd and Tracey. Hopefully soon this will ramp up, and you can find it, and can get something out of it, and also feel free to contribute or correct any errors I may have made.

I've gone ahead and numbered the generations for convenience. Mostly mine, as I reference things. If I ever do find a reliable source beyond Robert, I guess I can label the generations with letters. I'll figure something out. I know there are devices and conventions like Ahnentafels, but this is a casual blog for now, and I'm not sure most readers would know how to decipher those at the moment.

Anyway.

Names in bold trace the line of descent. Here we go!

1) Robert Baldwin (b.1468) - Agnes Dolte
2) Richard Baldwin (1503 - 1553) - Ellen Apuke (1507 - 1565)
3) Henry Baldwin (1530 - 1602) - Alice Kinge (1533 - 1626)
4) Sylvester Baldwin (1571 - 1632) - Jane Wells
5) Sylvester Baldwin (1598 - 1637) - Sarah Bryan (1606 - 1669)
6) Richard Baldwin (1622 - 1665) - Elizabeth Alsop (1625 - 1688)
7) Theophilus Baldwin (1659 - 1698) - Elizabeth Campfield (1660 - 1730)
8) Theophilus Baldwin (1695 - 1745) - Jerusha Beecher (1705 - 1790)
9) Asahel Baldwin (1739 - 1821) - Esther Baldwin (1746 - 1820)
10) Isaac Baldwin (1787 - 1845) - Amanda Drake (1796 - 1899)
11) William H. Baldwin (1816 - 1862) - Fidelia A. Thomson (1820 - 1844)
12) Lyman J. Baldwin (1843 - 1921) - Elizabeth A Wolcott (1847 - 1938)
13) William H. Baldwin (1866 - 1951) - Irene Keeler (1869 - 1953)
14) Lyman J. Baldwin (1889 - 1981) - Bessie Siddell (1898 - 1977)
15) L. L. Baldwin (1921 - 1996) - H. M. Baldwin (1928 - 2011)
16) W. Baldwin - L. Baldwin
17) William Baldwin, Myself

Special notes: Generation 9 - A Baldwin married a Baldwin (shock!) I'll write about that later. Generation 6 - Elizabeth Alsop is a 'gateway ancestor', so she will feature heavily in the posts where I talk about ties to royalty and the Magna Carta. Generation 2 - Discussion of Richard Baldwin's immediate family will tie in to a future post I wish to write, "The Problem of Richard Baldwin (1540)". Maybe someone can provide some answers there.

And so, there it is. Five-and-a-half centuries of Baldwins. But I want this blog to be about my family history, not just the Baldwin line. The famous ones without the Baldwin name which can be read about in history books, and the lesser known ones who pushed along local history in Connecticut. Basically anything which I think my relatives and other readers would find interesting. I also want this blog to be a compilation for my niece, nephew and cousins who may have an interest. I can't spout through 1,483 years of history and distant relatives off the top of my head, every time, after all.
Blah.
To me, it feels like I am merely putting pieces of a larger puzzle together, and explaining them as a more cohesive whole to see the big picture. This way, I can delve into individuals I know of in some more depth, to tell their interesting stories. But this is for later.

For now, enjoy the chart above, and leave comments below. Are there comments on this thing?

I need a snappy phrase, with which to end each post. How about that? Nah. Never mind.
